District 13 News — Give Kids A Smile Day

February 27, 2018 — On February 10, 2018, San Joaquin Dental Society hosted it’s local Give Kids A Smile Day at Saint Raphael's Dental Clinic in Stockton, CA. Their goal was to provide approximately 85-100 underserved children with dental services free of charge. At this event children between the ages of 1-17 were treated. With a team of more than 100 volunteers, ICD Fellows Drs. Douglas Fong, Brad Louie, Lester Low, Bruce Toy, and Janice Scott, helped to examine 52 children and complete over $25,000 worth of free dentistry for the children. District 13 — Fellow In Action News — Dr. Bradley C. Louie — A Dental Mission to Guatemala

February 26, 2018 — A Dental Mission to Guatemala Guatemala is one of the poorest Latin American countries. Many people native to Guatemala do not have an affordable clean water supply and hence are unable to practice proper hygiene. Ironically, it is less expensive to purchase soda and juice than water. Poor oral hygiene practices coupled with little access to dental care creates a perfect storm for uncontrolled dental caries. In July 2017, ICD Fellow Dr. Bradley C. Louie joined Dr. Mike O'Brien, Dr. Neil Katsura, Dr. Lisa Dobak, Dr. Paul Kasrovi, and Dr. Elizabeth Ng to serve Guatemalan children, family members, and teachers with a local non-profit Mayan Families. The one-week clinic in...

District 13 — Fellow In Action News — Dr. Ronald E. Fritz — Beautiful Belize

December 5, 2017 — Beautiful Belize One of the highlights of being a dental professional is being able to choose to give back to humanity of your talent. In my own case, looking back at my life and career, I can now see how giving to people who desperately need it, who would likely not be able to receive much needed treatment any other way, who are grateful and often show their gratitude in touching ways, has enriched my life and career beyond what I ever imagined. On every adventure to go help, it has been an equalizing experience to have my priorities in life readjusted back to where they should be about what...

November 22, 2016 — Gorgeous Guatemala Report by: Dr. Ronald E. Fritz My excitement was running in high gear as I prepared myself and my instruments for my first ever trip to Guatemala. I had been to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and all over México, but only heard and read enticing reports from Guatemala. Thanks to an invitation from friend and colleague, Richard Hagstrom, DDS, I was about to see it with my own eyes! La República de Guatemala, along with Belize, are the most northern countries of Central America, and border México to the north and west. The territory of Guatemala once formed the core of the Mayan civilization, which extended across Mesoamerica. Most...
