District 11 News - ACD/ICD Joint Meeting held March 10, 2018

April 23, 2018 — The ACD/ICD held their Annual Oregon/Washington Joint Meeting on March 10th, at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, OR. The dinner and lecture were well attended, and the presentation title was: "How Animation Works and Its History", with speaker Neisje Morrell. Ms. Morrell is a studio and freelance 2D animator based in Portland OR. She has experience in animating commercials, TV shows, music videos and mobile games. December 6, 2017 — The 47th Annual Ernest M. Jones Memorial Lectureship was held on March 24, 2017, at the University of Washington in Seattle, sponsored in part by the University of Washington Dental Alumni Association. April 26, 2017 — Dr. David M. Minahan (’75) 2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipient In a 2013 WSDA News profile of Dr. Minahan, the newly elected WSDA president, Dr. Mark Walker (’81) called him “a great friend who is always willing to lend a hand.” Dr. Minahan’s long history of service to the WSDA, with honors including a WSDA Presidential Award in 2001, more than bears that out. April 26, 2017 — Dr. Dexter E. Barnes ('69) 2017 Honorary Lifetime Member Award Recipient Dr. Barnes (“Deck” to all who know him) has compiled stellar credentials in dentistry, including presidency of the Washington State Dental Association, the Washington State Oral Health Foundation, and most recently the International College of Dentists (ICD). He is also a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the American College of Dentists. District 11 — Fellows in Action News — Organized 4-Day Free Healthcare Clinic

February 17, 2017 — October 2016 — Drs. Jeffrey Parrish and Michael Karr organized and managed the Seattle 4-day free clinic that was held at the Key Arena. Over 400 caregivers and their staffs worked together to provide a full range of free dental, vision and medical care to the underserved population in the region. The next clinic is scheduled to be held on October 26 - 29, 2017.

January 13, 2015 — Introducing our 2015 ICD USA Section President Dr. Dexter E. Barnes! President Barnes, who goes by Deck, was born in Seattle, Washington in 1943. His family moved to Eugene, Oregon for his Junior and Senior High School years. He then returned to Seattle where he attained his B.S. and D.D.S. degrees from the University of Washington in 1969. Deck and Mary Ann married between his second and third year of Dental School in 1967, and are the proud parents of four grown children: sons Shannon, Bryce and Brett and daughter Lindsey, and proud grandparents of eight.
