Deputy Regent
Edwin L. Morris

Report by Deputy Regent Edwin L. Morris

With the recently concluded ICD Convocation in Las Vegas, the induction of new fellows and installation of new officers (more on this in a moment) we come to that time of year for our own Annual General Membership Meeting. General membership meetings serve as a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues, meet new fellows and find out what’s happening in the ICD at large. At the same time a general membership meeting can represent one more item on an already too busy professional calendar. As members of the ICD you have been recognized for your active, committed involvement in your community and profession. A result of that sense of responsibility on your part is time spent away from family and other personal activities. We can all relate to the importance of balance between the personal and professional.

With that in mind, we have planned a General Membership Meeting that will be both informative and stimulating. You will, first, be introduced to the newly inducted Fellows from Maryland and we will present the winner of this year’s Clendenin Award to the top student from last year’s freshman class. In addition, we will have a featured speaker, Mr. Kim Miller. Mr. Miller has spent most of his professional career as a member of The United States Marine Band, “The President’s Own” as they are know. He has been present for many of the political and diplomatic activities at the White House during his professional career and he offers his own personal perspective on these events. I think that you will find his reflections both entertaining and thought provoking.

On another subject, it is with great pleasure we note that Dr. Michael Kenney has been elected President of the USA Section of the ICD for 2012. Mike has been a steady, guiding influence in our organization for so many years. We look forward to his thoughtful, responsible leadership of the USA Section during the coming year. Congratulations Mike!

As always, we ask you to consider nominating a deserving member of your dental community for fellowship in the ICD. Who do you know who has been a leader and has made a difference?

I look forward to seeing you at the General Membership Meeting on November 16, 2011.
