I hope you will be pleased with a regular District 16 newsletter. Dr. Richard Roadcap of Virginia, the Editor, willingly took on the challenge and his efforts are appreciated. District 16 has strong ICD leaders and activities. Getting the news out to our District 16 Fellows and others on a regular basis will be of benefit to us in the District and the entire ICD. Thanks a million, Richard!

As we enter the new year, I must say: North Carolina in 2011 was our District star with sixteen new Fellows, a student exchange program and more. Way to go, NC! I challenge Virginia and South Carolina to top them in 2012. Our NC colleagues are already off to a good start for 2012.

There are individuals worthy of the honor of being an ICD Fellow. Remember, it takes your nomination for it to occur. The process and considerable other valuable information is available on the ICD website, www.usa-icd.org, or you may contact your state Deputy Regent or ICD office. A listing of present Fellows should be helpful in determining possible new honorees.

A new ICD program helps the families of wounded military personnel. Fisher Houses (www.fisherhouse.org) are located near several hospitals in our District. Families of service personnel undergoing care can reside in a Fisher House to be close to their loved one. ICD is setting up a program for ICD Fellows located nearby to donate emergency dental care to the families during their stay. This is a great way for us to use our talents to assist the families of those that have sacrificed on behalf of our country. If you are near a Fisher House your Deputy Regent will be contacting you as a volunteer and discussing the program further.

The first ICD-ACD C.E. Conference will take place March 30-31 in Savannah, Georgia. You will receive further information but mark your calendars, especially if you hold a leadership position. This is a time we can show what it means to live in the South and our commitment to community and dental leadership. As you know, that’s the focus of ICD and it will be here in District 16 along with the American College of Dentists.
