October 2006 LAS VEGAS MEETING The USA Section of the ICD had its annual meeting and convocation in conjunction with the ADA meeting as it does each year. The conference was held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on October 14-16. Some of the highlights of the 2006 meeting follow: Several of the Section Committees met on the morning of October 14 followed by an Executive Committee Meeting directed by USA Section President, Dr. I. Leon Aronson in the afternoon. The ICD Journalism Awards were presented at the meeting of the American Association of Dental Editors. Sixteen awards were given to dental editors and authors from the U.S. and Canada. The USA Section Foundation also met on October 14. That meeting was conducted by Foundation President, Dr. Michael A.Luberto of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan who acceded to the Presidency following the recent tragic passing of Dr. John B. Lathrop of West Chester, PA. The Board of Regents meeting was held on October 15 where reports of activities were presented by each of the officers, the seventeen regents and the committee chairpersons. The Convocation was held on October 16. Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni gave an inspiring convocation address to the 255 New Fellows, their guests and members of the College. Section President, Dr. I. Leon Aronson and College-at-Large President, Dr. Chao-Chang Chan of Chinese Taipei, inducted the New Fellows into the College. A reception and black tie gala dinner dance in honor of the New Fellows followed the Convocation ceremony. Mr. Craig A. Palmer, the Washington Editor of the American Dental Association was made an Honorary Member of the ICD. Dr. Eric J. Hovland, Dean of the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, received the Outstanding Dental Leader Award and was presented a twenty-five thousand dollar check from the USA Section Foundation to help the school recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Donald E. Johnson of Atlanta, GA was installed as President of the International College of Dentists College-at-large. Dr. Richard A. Shick of Grand Blanc, MI was elected Vice President of the International College of Dentists College-at-large.
