Continuing Education Conference XXVI

The 26th ICD Continuing Education Conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland on April 19-20, 2009 following the Board of Regents meeting. The conference will be held at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, which is adjacent to the Inner Harbor and many fine restaurants and attractions. A welcoming cocktail party and registration will be held on Saturday, April 18.

Baltimore Inner HarborA most timely lecture series with outstanding clinicians will be scheduled for Sunday and Monday mornings. Dr. Robert Ord, the Chair of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery at the University of Maryland and a distinguished cancer surgeon, will address the "Changing Demographics of Oral Cancer and Oral Screening in the Dental Office." Dr. Robert Taft, the Dean of the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, and Dr. Gerald Grant will lecture on "Maxillofacial Prosthetic Support for the Wounded Warrior; Past, Present, and Future."

On Monday Dr. Christian Stohler, the Dean of the University of Maryland Dental School, will give a presentation on "Dentistry and Dental Education - The Best Is Yet to Come." Dr. Michael Belenky will present on the "International Student Exchange: Global Pathway to the Future." Dr. Belenky is the Chair of Global Dentistry at the University of Maryland. Dr. Harold Crosley will lecture on "The Top 25 Most Prescribed Medications and their Dental Implications." Dr. Crosley is both a dentist and a pharmacologist, who lectures extensively throughout the United States and abroad.

Fellows, spouses, and guests will visit the National Dental Museum on Sunday afternoon. This will be followed by a tour of the very new and state-of-the-art dental school at the University of Maryland. A reception and dinner will follow at the beautiful atrium of the dental school. Monday afternoon will be free so that everyone can take advantage of the many options that are available in the Inner Harbor area and in the surrounding city.

The Post Trip will be from Tuesday, April 21 to Friday, April 24 and will be headquartered at the exquisite Gaylord National Resort on the Potomac. This is a magnificent and interesting property accessible to Old Town Alexandria and upscale shopping and restaurants via water taxi.

On Wednesday, April 22 we will have a VIP tour of the US Naval Academy and Annapolis. Lunch will be at Carrols Creek Waterfront Restaurant with later return to the Gaylord on the Potomac National Resort. It is interesting to note that the Gaylord Resort was the site for the Inaugural Ball in January.

On Thursday, April 23 we will complete our tour of Washington, D.C. with a visit to the Newseum and the Smithsonian Institute. The Newseum was opened in 2008 and has rapidly become a most popular attraction. We will enjoy a lunch break at Phillips Seafood Restaurant. The trip will conclude on Friday with transportation provided to Baltimore and/or BWI Airport.
