Happy New Year and Farewell Message from 2017 USA Section President, Dr. Chuck Smith!

This is being written to celebrate a great 2017 for the ICD USA Section, and send all Fellows of the International College of Dentists USA Section wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

It was an honor and pleasure to serve as the President of the Section. I would like to begin by thanking the members of the Board of Regents, Vice Regents, and Councilors for the hard work they do in their respective Regencies and States. The “life blood” of the USA Section and the ICD worldwide is the recruitment of outstanding dentists and retention of our Fellows. I challenge all Fellows to sponsor AT LEAST one Candidate each year for Fellowship! There is no shortage of deserving candidates around you. I encourage you to always be on the lookout for those dentists who are outstanding in service and leadership. Our online Fellowship process is easier than ever, but the USA Section Office staff will always be available to assist with the process if needed.

I would like to thank Admiral Elaine Wagner and the ICD USA Section Staff for an efficient and daily effort to make the Section Office run smoothly. Our new Editor, Dr. Cliff Simmons, continues to provide quality periodicals and new ideas during Executive Committee and Board of Regents discussions. Ms. Paula Rinaudo, a new Honorary Fellow and the "Director of Wow", continues to improve the wow factor and the branding initiatives for the Section.

I am very excited about the future direction of the USA Section for 2018! The Section will be making the final payment on the new office/condo in Gaithersburg, MD. The purchase of the new office provided the Section with much needed space, and the ability to add additional employees. The Board of Regents will be evaluating and implementing IT upgrades that will continue to improve online services for our Fellows. The new Membership Committee will begin to evaluate and implement membership categories and retention policies.

I would like to personally thank Dr. Margot Culotta-Norton as she finishes her time on the Board of Regents. She has provided guidance and a historical perspective of the College's past, present, and future. Margot thanks for your leadership and service.

I am looking forward to Dr. Joe Kenneally's year as Section President in 2018. Dr. Kenneally brings years of ADA and ICD Service to the Board and will be an inspirational leader for the College this year.

In this new year, please be mindful of our Fellows across the country and in Puerto Rico, who still face adversarial and economic hardships. If possible, please consider a donation to one of the relief agencies to help the rebuilding of communities and dental practices.

Happy New Year!
Leadership, Integrity and Service
Chuck
