May 2018 — The International College of Dentists USA Section International Student Experience (ISE) program helps support dental students volunteer on mission trips.
Read message below from the San Antonio Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA) regarding a recent mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. (2 Timothy 2:2)
“See one, do one, teach one” is perhaps the oldest motto in medical and dental training. It is much the same principle as the Apostle Paul gave to Timothy (above). We witnessed this again last week as God gave us an outstanding medical and dental team for Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
People often ask, “Why do you go through all of the effort and expense of taking a team of doctors and students on an international missions trip?” There are many ways to answer that question, but one of the best is simply - “see one, do one, teach one.” The Christian doctors on the trip allow the
students to see them in a third world setting giving physical and spiritual care to those in need. Then, they help the students to do the actual care themselves. And finally, the students begin to teach others. They are learning the discipline of service very early in their medical and dental training, and they will likely continue that service throughout their careers, long after the rest of us are gone.
Many of the students and doctors are excited about returning again next year. Listen to what they were saying on the trip home:
“So encouraging and challenging, leading us into service in His strength to love on and help those we encountered.”
“It was an awesome experience, thanks for giving me the opportunity! It inspired me to be a better dentist.” We rely heavily on the continuing prayers and financial support of San Antonio CMDA sponsors like you to offer these opportunities for students at the lowest cost. Thanks!
