CHAPEL HILL, NC—MAY 2017
In May 2017, Fellow Burton A. Horwitz led a volunteer mission to provide dental treatment for underprivileged children in Chisinau, Moldova. The mission was part of an existing partnership between the University of North Carolina (UNC) Dental School and the Dental School in Moldova. The NC Moldova State Partnership program allows groups from each university to provide dental care for orphan children, while the dental students learn dental techniques. During the 10-day mission, a team of dentists and dental nurses examined over 150 patients and performed over 300 procedures. Simultaneously, the UNC and Moldovan dental students were trained on proper dental procedures and skills.
Dental supplies and financial support have been given to this program by the ICD USA Section Foundation, the ICD Global Visionary Fund, and Henry Schein Cares Foundation.
