Elizabethtown dentist gives dental care for US Women's National Field Hockey Team. This dentist wants the Olympic team to focus on the game in Rio, not toothaches.

When the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team heads to Rio for the Olympics, each athlete can focus on her game, not a toothache.

That’s thanks to an Elizabethtown dentist who’s given members of the Lancaster-based team free dental care.

Dr. Rick Knowlton is there when injuries happen. More often, he has offered cleanings and dental work for a group of athletes who train full time and travel so often that they may let dental appointments slip.

The partnership started a few years ago, after Caitlin Van Sickle chipped a front tooth and pushed another tooth out of line. Knowlton was called to help.

“He fixed my teeth,” Van Sickle said. “And ... ever since then, he’s given us free dental work and cleanings, whitening kits, cavities, all the works. He’s so generous,” she said.
