Dr. Phillip Yancho recently received the Michigan Dental Associations 2017 Public Service Award for the Victors for Veterans Program (V4V) that was held in his office from January to November 2016. There were 14 clinics held in his office and almost $400,000 in free dentistry delivered to veterans by The University of Michigan Dental Students, area dentists and speciality offices.

More than $250,000 of restorative care was provided in Dr. Yancho's office and the rest was donated by area oral surgeons, endodontists, a periodontist and Deerhaven Dentistry during these 14 clinics.  Dr. Yancho was among several Traverse City area dentists that participated in the program (they also were recognized by the MDA) by becoming preceptors with the Dental School and were charged with overseeing the care delivered by the students. Dr. Yancho's son, Joe Yancho is a senior dental student at U of M and helps organize this outreach program.

The program was started in Gaylord Michigan by UM students at Duski Dentistry. It was called the Wolverine Patriot Project. Dr. Yancho's son and his class picked up the program and renamed it Victors for Veterans (V4V) and are trying to make it perpetual.

Congratulations Dr. Yancho on this well deserved award!

Just a note to clarify, this

Just a note to clarify, this award was given to many people involved in the program and I was just the person that accepted the award for the entire group.  Accolades need to go out to all involved and the program is a wonderful venue that is being explored in order to get needy veterans the care they deserve. It benefits the UM Dental students as they see and do procedures they would not be exposed to in dental school.  It benefits the veterans as they get quality care at no out of pocket costs to them.

Thank you,

Phil  Yancho, DDS
