SAN ANTONIO — Paul E. Stubbs, DDS, of Georgetown is this year’s recipient of the Texas Dental Association (TDA) Gold Medal for Distinguished Service, the highest achievement within the Association. Dr Stubbs is the 17th TDA member to be so honored by his peers, who gave him a standing ovation at the awards ceremony held during a meeting of the House of Delegates, the governing body of the TDA. The presentation occurred May 4, 2013, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, as part of the TDA’s 143rd annual convention.

Dr Stubbs, a general dentist, has held countless leadership positions throughout his career. He is the current president of the International College of Dentists (USA Section) and is the current chair of the TDA Building Committee. He previously served as president of the TDA, on the American Dental Association Council on Access, Prevention, and Interprofessional Relations, as a member of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, and as president of the Western Region Examining Board.

In addition to practicing general dentistry full-time, he is active in the community. He is a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Austin and has served on board of directors and treasurer for Extend-A-Care and on the advisory boards for the Assistance League of Austin and AIDS Services of Austin.

Only one dentist per year may receive the Gold Medal. The criteria involves having held leadership positions in both the Texas and American Dental Associations, local dental society contributions that affected state concerns, commitment to organized dentistry through other organizations including teaching, and service to the community. The name of the winner is not revealed to anyone, including the recipient, until the actual presentation takes place.
