Message from the President
As I write this, the USA ICD Section is in the midst of planning for the celebration of a special event in its long history. In 2020, the College will celebrate the Centennial of its conception by American dental educator Dr. Louis Ottofy and his Japanese host, friend and colleague, Dr. Tsurukichi Okumura, which occurred at celebratory dinner in Tokyo, Japan in 1920.
The International Centennial Celebration will be held in Nagoya, Japan in the Autumn of 2020, but our own USA Section is in the midst of planning a special and significant celebration of its own. Starting with our Annual Meeting and Convocation from October 16-19, 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and continuing in our States, Districts, and Section throughout 2019 and 2020, look for a variety of ways to celebrate ICD and “Fly the Flag” of our great College. I don’t want to tip our hand too early, but our Centennial Celebration Committee has a lot of fun and exciting ideas for a fitting recognition of this auspicious occasion.
Our USA Centennial Celebration will take place in Orlando, Florida just prior to the ADA Annual Session, “America’s Dental Meeting”. We would love to have a large contingent of USA and international Fellows there to help us commemorate this special time. We would also love to have a large number of USA Fellows in Nagoya to help make the International Celebration one to remember.
Thanks to all of you who attended the Spring Meeting in Portland, Maine. My wife Lisa and I hope that you enjoyed our Business Meeting, Educational Program at the University of New England College of Dental Medicine, and Social Program that included a lobster bake on Peak’s Island and a trip to L.L. Bean.
Section One again has another large and impressive class of New Fellows lined up for Honolulu this October, and please remember, most of our events are open to any Fellow. I invite you to join us in beautiful Hawaii as we honor our newest members. Check out our program elsewhere on this website.
Thanks for your participation in the International College of Dentists. Aloha!
Joseph R. Kenneally, DMD
President, ICD USA Section
