Leadership
The Leadership Packet
When the Dallas County Dental Society embarked on the Great Expectations program in 2007 there was flurry of communications generated by the excitement in this new concept. Later, these communications were gathered a loose collection now affectionately referred to as "The Packet." The Packet contains a wide variety of information from many sources helpful to those interested in initiating their own Great Expectations program.
The size and diversity of information can be daunting so we have put together a guided tour to help you easily navigate and access this wealth of information. By left clicking on any of the colored words, you will be taken to a PDF file referenced by that word. A free PDF viewer, Adobe Acrobat is available to download from the Adobe web site (www.adobe.com)
The International College of Dentists Brochure
This ICD Brochure (1), although not part of the original Packet, is a distillation of the contents of the Packet assembled by the International College of Dentists Leadership Committee. This brochure is a good way to get a brief but fairly complete overview of the Great Expectations program.
The Dallas County Dental Society Brochure
This DCDS Brochure (2) contains a very nice collection of quotes from ICD mentors, faculty, and students as well as the DCDS Strategic Plan, a list of steps to implement a Great Expectations Program, and background information on the program's origins.
The Dugoni Papers.
At a professional meeting, Moody Alexander, originator of the Great Expectations Project, had ask his long time friend Dean Arthur Dugoni how he (Moody) might influence his students toward a more professional behavior. Between speakers Dr Dugoni sketched out his Humanistic philosophy (3) on hotel stationary. The following May Dean Dugoni presented a milestone speech (4) to the Texas ICD/ACD members outlining the humanist model in dental education. If you have not heard Dr Dugoni in person, this is an engaging "must read"
